
Symptoms of Cerebral Palsy
The symptoms and severity of cerebral palsy vary from person to person but may include:
- Difficulty with muscle control
- Uncontrolled movements
- Spasms
- Poor balance and coordination
- Favoring one side of the body
- Difficulty with fine motor skills
- Stiff muscles
- Eye muscle imbalance
- Tremors or jerking involuntary movements
Cerebral Palsy Risk Factors:
Some factors that increase the risk of Cerebral Palsy include:
- Low birth weight (children who weigh less than 5 ½ pounds)
- Premature birth
- Multiple births – twins, triples, and other multiple births have a high risk of CP
- Assisted reproduction technology / Infertility treatments
- Infections during pregnancy
- Jaundice and kernicterus
- Birth complications
