For individuals with sleep apnea, continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy can play an essential role in improving sleep quality and improving your overall health. However, it is important to understand that maintaining the effectiveness of CPAP therapy requires proper cleaning and regular supply replacement. Let's look at what you need to know to keep your PAP device functioning at its peak performance.

Why Should I Replace My CPAP Supplies?

CPAP manufacturers recommend replacing supplies regularly to keep your machine functioning properly. Here’s why:

  • Mask and Tubing: Masks and tubing were designed for comfort and flexibility, not endurance. Due to their disposable nature, masks are guaranteed by the manufacturer for only 90 days. Over time, the mask loses proper fit and develops leaks.
  • Headgear and Chinstraps: Both these pieces help keep you comfortable, and your mask fitting properly. When the plastics start to break down and your headgear stretches out, you may be over-tightening to compensate for a bad fit.
  • Filters: Recommended to be replaced every six months or two per month if your device has a disposable filter. Filters become clogged over time; new ones are critical to keeping your machine running well.
  • Water Chamber: The tub can become discolored, cracked, or pitted due to minerals in the water and build up inside the chamber.
