Lincare’s affiliate Meridian recently opened their pulmonary rehabilitation services at William Newton Memorial Hospital in March 2023, and it is already making an impact on patients with chronic lung diseases. The program is led by a team of highly skilled healthcare professionals and currently serves 20 active patients of William Newton Memorial Hospital. Patients like Ryan Smith have given commendable reviews of the program's success.
In March, Ryan was on a waiting list for a lung transplant. One of the requirements on the transplant list was the completion of a pulmonary rehab program. As the first patient to enter, Ryan started the William Newton Memorial Hospital Pulmonary Rehabilitations program alongside respiratory therapist Michelle Jones, RRT. Through Ryan’s dedication to the pulmonary rehabilitation program, his lung transplant has now been postponed for the foreseeable future. Ryan graduated from the Meridian program in August 2023 and is looking forward to spending more active time with his wife and 8 children.

Michelle states, "Anyone with shortness of breath, this program can benefit them. If you think you can't, you definitely can. We start out slow, and we work at your level and make tiny improvements each and every day. It's a marathon. It's not a sprint. It takes time and consistency every day, making little improvements to help achieve goals of being able to breathe easier."
